Remote Medical Coder – Hospital Coding Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a meticulous Remote Medical Coder to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will apply US or UK coding standards to complex patient records, ensuring accurate reimbursement and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Review and analyze inpatient and outpatient medical records, including operative reports, discharge summaries, and outpatient notes.
• Assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD‑10‑CM, CPT, HCPCS (US) or ICD‑10, OPCS‑4, SNOMED CT (UK).
• Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with federal, state, NHS and payer guidelines.
• Identify documentation gaps, query physicians or clinical staff, and resolve coding errors.
• Optimize reimbursement by correcting claim denials and maintaining data integrity.
• Participate in audits and stay current with coding guideline updates.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of hospital medical coding experience (inpatient or outpatient) in the US or UK.
• Active certification from AAPC or AHIMA (e.g., CPC, CCS, CIC, COC) or equivalent UK certification.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and pharmacology.
• Proficiency with Electronic Health Record systems such as Epic, Cerner, EMIS Web or SystmOne.
• Reliable computer (Windows 10/11 or macOS 12+) and high‑speed internet connection.
• Verified backup power supply (UPS or generator) and a quiet, secure, HIPAA/GDPR‑compliant workspace.
