Group Lead, Financial Risk Assurance

About the role

The Group Lead, Financial Risk Assurance will head the Financial Risk Assurance function across Ecobank’s pan‑African operations. Reporting to the Group Executive – Internal Audit & Management Services, the role is responsible for delivering high‑quality audits, risk reviews and advisory services that strengthen the Group’s financial risk management framework.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain a comprehensive framework for reviewing credit, market, operational, liquidity, FX and model risk across all geographies.
• Develop risk‑based audit programmes, testing procedures and ensure alignment with Group policies, Basel standards and local regulations.
• Provide assurance on the adequacy of risk mitigation strategies and internal control environments.
• Identify risk concentrations and control weaknesses, and recommend practical, value‑adding solutions.
• Champion best practices in risk management and drive initiatives for process improvement, automation and digitisation of audit activities.
• Ensure that each geography has the necessary skills and resources to deliver effective financial risk assurance coverage.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in financial risk assurance, internal audit or risk management within a multi‑jurisdictional banking environment.
• Deep understanding of credit, operational, market, liquidity, FX and model risk concepts and regulatory expectations.
• Proven ability to influence stakeholders, lead change and promote a culture of risk awareness.
• Strong analytical mindset with the capacity to identify emerging risks and develop robust mitigation approaches.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Basel regulatory frameworks and related compliance standards.
• Expertise in designing audit methodologies and risk‑based testing procedures.
• Experience with automation or digitisation tools for audit processes.
