Psychiatric Registered Nurse

About the role

The Psychiatric Registered Nurse provides professional psychiatric nursing care to acutely and chronically ill patients within a Community Mental Health Center. Working under the Director of Nursing, the RN supports patient treatment, supervises staff, and contributes to a safe, respectful care environment.

Key responsibilities

• Implement psychiatric nursing protocols, carry out physicians’ orders, and administer medication therapy.
• Collect and document clinical data, including biophysical, psychosocial, and environmental observations.
• Develop, update, and evaluate individualized patient treatment plans.
• Supervise and delegate tasks to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and psychiatric technicians.
• Provide education to patients and families about medication, treatment plans, and follow‑up care.
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment and environment and ensure compliance with civil service and county policies.
• Participate in or lead individual/group counseling sessions, family conferences, and therapeutic activities.
• Assist physicians during rounds and support daily operations of the secure treatment facility.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensed to practice in the relevant jurisdiction.
• Experience providing psychiatric nursing care to acute and chronic patients.
• Ability to work under the direction of the Director of Nursing and supervise support staff.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
