Registered Dietitian

About the role

The Registered Dietitian works under the direction of the Assistant Director of Food Service to develop and implement nutrition care plans for residents, patients, and detainees across multiple county health facilities. This position ensures evidence‑based dietary interventions are aligned with clinical goals and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, complete, and implement Minimum Data Sets (MDS), Care Area Assessments (CAA), and individualized care plans.
• Determine nutrient needs, write diet orders with physician approval, and prescribe therapeutic diets, supplements, and enteral feeding regimens.
• Monitor weight trends, intake patterns, and clinical indicators to identify malnutrition or dehydration risk.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy and adjust interventions accordingly.
• Provide nutrition education to residents, patients, and staff during meal service.
• Analyze menus, calculate nutrient content, and support recipe revision and menu planning.
• Maintain accurate resident/patient records and document all nutrition interventions.
• Participate in interdisciplinary care teams, committees, and quality assessment activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in dietetics from an accredited institution.
• Current registration as a dietitian and appropriate licensure.
• Experience in clinical nutrition, preferably in a correctional or mental health setting.
• Ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including healthcare providers, law enforcement, and county officials.
