Sterile Processing Technician – Central Supply

About the role

The Sterile Processing Technician works in the central supply department to ensure that surgical instruments and equipment are decontaminated, assembled, packaged, sterilized, and ready for use. This position supports the operating rooms by maintaining a reliable inventory of sterile supplies.

Key responsibilities

• Perform decontamination, cleaning, assembly, packaging, scanning, and sterilization of reusable surgical instruments and equipment.
• Prepare and wrap instrument trays for designated areas according to established procedures.
• Operate the bar‑code instrument tracking system to monitor inventory and usage.
• Disassemble, clean, and test specialty instrumentation to verify proper functioning.
• Differentiate between single‑use and reusable items and handle each accordingly.
• Monitor biological and chemical wash solutions to ensure consistent decontamination quality.
• Sort mismatched instrument sets, restock supplies, label inventory, and distribute trays, crash carts, and equipment.
• Perform environmental maintenance and assist with equipment maintenance requests.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• State licensure or certification as a Sterilization Technician preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in sterile processing or central supply in a fast‑paced operating‑room environment.
• Ability to work independently and follow standard precautions and infection‑control protocols.
