About the role
The Psychiatric Technician works under the direction of a Psychiatric Registered Nurse or designee, providing basic nursing care and supporting the comfort and needs of patients at the Douglas County Community Mental Health Center.
Key responsibilities
- Perform clinical activities based on each patient’s treatment plan, including vital sign monitoring and documentation.
- Observe psychosocial interactions, report changes or abnormal behavior, and de‑escalate challenging situations.
- Assist patients with personal care routines, nutrition monitoring, and specimen collection.
- Participate in patient admissions, shift reports, and therapeutic group activities.
- Maintain a safe environment by following infection‑control procedures, handling chemicals and biohazards, and monitoring closed‑circuit television.
- Transport and transfer patients using proper body‑mechanics techniques and operate a motor vehicle when required for County business.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or experience may be considered on a year‑for‑year basis.
- CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training to be completed within six months of hire.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment criminal background check, drug screening, and physical assessment.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lb, push 35 lb, and exert 65 lb of grip strength, with required visual, hearing and manual dexterity.
