Senior Software Engineer (English/French Speaking)

About the role

The Senior Software Engineer leads the design, development and maintenance of complex software systems for Ecobank's software centre, which serves business units and 34 affiliates. The role reports to the Lead, Software Engineering and involves mentoring associate and software engineers, contributing to architectural decisions and taking part in the strategic planning of technical initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and implementation of scalable, secure and high-performance software, turning business requirements into technical specifications.
• Write, review and optimise code; provide technical direction and run code reviews.
• Mentor associate and software engineers and foster continuous learning.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, design microservices, APIs and distributed systems, and recommend new technologies.
• Work with product managers, designers and QA engineers, and take part in sprint planning, retrospectives and daily stand-ups.
• Troubleshoot complex issues, identify development bottlenecks and propose improvements.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and advocate for automation and testing improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field; a Master's is an added advantage.
• 5-8+ years of hands-on software development experience with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
• Experience in a senior or technical leadership role is preferred.
• Fluent English and French.

• Programming: Java, Python, C#, JavaScript or similar.
• Frameworks: Spring Boot, Django.NET, Angular, React, Kotlin or Vue.js.
• Microservices, RESTful APIs and distributed systems.
• Databases: Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, Cassandra.
• Message queues: JMS, Kafka, RabbitMQ.
• CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP or OCI.
• Automated testing and debugging.
