Surgery Scheduler / Patient Services Representative

About the role

The Surgery Scheduler/Patient Services Representative ensures that surgical cases are accurately scheduled and that patients receive courteous, efficient service throughout their visit. This position acts as the primary liaison between surgeons, nursing staff, anesthesiologists, and patients.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and optimize the surgery schedule, coordinating with surgeons' offices to confirm procedures, times, and case order.
• Communicate with charge nurses, anesthesiologists, and the surgical team regarding supplies, patient needs, and any changes.
• Manage block schedules for surgeons and update them as needed.
• Greet patients, answer incoming calls, and direct inquiries to the appropriate staff.
• Verify and update patient demographic and insurance information, including handling referrals for HMO patients.
• Prepare new patient charts, collect signatures, and ensure all paperwork is confidential and timely.
• Enter patient charges, payments, and discounts into the billing system on the day of surgery; collect deductibles, co‑pays, and outstanding balances.
• Perform end‑of‑day balancing and mail/package distribution according to policies.
• Maintain a clean, organized workspace and adhere to dress‑code and confidentiality standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum two years front‑office experience in a medical environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and interpret policies and regulations.
• Own a cell phone for system authentication and communication.
• Compliance with facility dress‑code policy.
