Surgical Technologist – Operating Room

About the role

The Surgical Technologist works as an essential member of the operating room team, supporting surgeons, anesthesiologists and circulating nurses during surgical procedures. The role is focused on preparing the surgical environment, assisting during operations, and ensuring patient safety throughout the process.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain medical equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions for each surgery.
• Assist with patient preparation, including washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites.
• Transport and position patients on the operating table, applying sterile drapes.
• Pass instruments, hold retractors, cut sutures, and count sponges, needles, and supplies.
• Operate sterilizers, lights, suction machines, and other diagnostic equipment.
• Handle, label, and dispose of specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Transfer patients to recovery, clean, and restock the operating room after each case.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the surgical team.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
• New graduates are welcome; OR experience and CPR certification are required.
• Ability to stand for long periods, lift or turn patients, and concentrate for up to four hours.
• Effective verbal communication and basic computer use.
