Registered Nurse Operating Room Circulator (PRN)

About the role

The Registered Nurse Operating Room (OR) Circulator works on an as‑needed (PRN) basis to provide comprehensive nursing care for surgical patients before, during, and after procedures. This position ensures patient safety, supports the surgical team, and maintains compliance with nursing standards and hospital policies.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient care throughout pre‑operative, intra‑operative, and post‑operative phases.
• Perform patient assessments, document histories, and monitor pain levels according to policy.
• Communicate pertinent information to the surgical team and ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate, legible patient records and sign documents with appropriate professional titles.
• Execute proper surgical case counting, aseptic technique, and turnover procedures.
• Verify patient identity and surgical site marking per policy.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and assist with blood product handling.
• Respond to emergencies and adjust care plans based on evolving patient data.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Registered Nurse license.
• Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Knowledge of JCAHO regulations, Nurse Practice Act, and patient rights.
