Surgical Technician (PRN) – Operating Room

About the role

The Surgical Technician (PRN) works as an essential member of the operating‑room team, providing direct support to surgeons, nurses and other clinical staff during surgical procedures. This position is on an as‑needed basis and involves preparing the OR, assisting during surgery, and ensuring a sterile environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, sterile drapes, solutions and equipment before each case.
• Assist with patient preparation, including washing, shaving, disinfecting incision sites and positioning on the operating table.
• Pass instruments, hold retractors, cut sutures and count sponges, needles and supplies during procedures.
• Operate sterilizers, surgical lights, suction machines and other diagnostic equipment.
• Handle, label, transport and dispose of specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Monitor patient vital signs, assist with gowning/gloving and maintain accurate documentation.
• Transfer patients to recovery, clean and restock the operating room after each case.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
• CPR certification.
• 0‑2 years of clinical experience in a related field.
• Ability to stand for long periods, lift or turn patients and concentrate for up to four hours.
• Strong verbal communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
